St Agnes is engaged in ministries which develop and build us up as well as those that minister outwards and towards the needs of our community.  We have divided these ministries into eight elderships with an elder overseeing each.  Within each eldership are a number of portfolios co-ordinated by a leader together with his/her team.

Church Community - Ross Norton

This Eldership has oversight of how the members of St Agnes relate to each other and give substance to the instruction from Jesus that we should love one another so that all will know that we are His Disciples (John 13:35).

Discipleship & Education - Antonio Coppola

Evangelism/Outreach - Andrew Geils

The Evangelism eldership under the leadership of Andrew Geils is key to the vision of St Agnes in being a SIGNIFICANT KINGDOM CHURCH. In order to achieve this, evangelism encompasses missions internal and external and is a cross-cutting portfolio that will be evident at all levels of a Kingdom Church.
Evangelism is in response to the call of God and in achieving this, it is necessary to be obedient and ambitious in our approach.

Family - Paul Dickens

Family’ dates back to when God created man and woman that they might “become one flesh” (Gen 2:24) and blessed them and said to them, "be fruitful and increase in number” (Gen 1:28).

The role of the family Eldership is to care for this God ordained unit ‘the family’. To this end we have established children, youth and young adult ministries and some ministries to parent’s. Both family and the young are key focus areas for St. Agnes and these ministries are being actively extended to provide discipling, supporting and equipping programmes appropriate to each.

Examples:

Family - GEMS, Wild at Heart, Mighty Men, Marriage Courses & more in the pipeline ...

Young People - John Wotherspoon

Children - A2J, Baptism Preparation, Children's Church, Communion Preparation, Schools

Youth - Sould Out Youth, SonSurf, Teen Church, Passed Thru Fire, Schools.

Young Adults - Evening Service, Home Groups, Disccipleship,l Year of Your Life, Missions

Social Justice - Siphiwe Gumede

Social Justice is the name given to the eldership which covers what used to be thought of as 'social outreach' The name change is significant, as a church we are seeking more and more to become inclusive and to work alongside those less fortunate than ourselves.
The eldership stands in support with those activities overseen by Portfolio leaders - Les Rodel and Siphiwe Gumede.

Les' remit covers: the Soup Kitchen, Thandanani, the Employment Bureau, the Eye Clinic, the Beaders.

Siphiwe is a full time ministry worker as well as Portfolio leader and Elder!  Zilungile Msomi too is a full time employee and together they provide mentorship and support to those volunteers working under the Philangathemba umbrella.  Philangathemba (Living with Hope) is the name given to work devoted to ministry in the valleys of Lower Molweni and Umgababa. The ministries include:-

Income generation (Hope Horizon, Ibhungezi (beaded handbags) the vegetable garden project.
  • HIV Aids which includes the support of the childcare centres in both Lower Molweni and Umgababa
  • Education which involves support given to the three schools, two primary and one high and the life skills programme run by Zilungile together with her volunteers.

Spirituality - Sue Du Preez

The main objective of three portfolios of the Spirituality Eldership is to enable us to build and deepen our relationship with God.  They address areas of our faith that are foundational to our own personal Christian walks and to the life of our Christian family at St Agnes.  These portfolios are :

Prayer

Communication is the most important factor in building a relationship!  Prayer is our communication with God.  The role of the Prayer Portfolio is to coordinate corporate prayer activities, organize special prayer initiatives, and enlist, equip and encourage people to pray effectively.  Listening to God is a particularly important facet of prayer, and learning to hear his voice is a central theme of this portfolio.

Worship

We were designed to worship God!  The act of worship drives back the darkness and brings us into the light and truth of God’s presence.  True worship opens a gate through which we may enter more closely into the presence and revelation of God.  The role of the Worship Portfolio is to co-ordinate and encourage the many varied and creative ways in which we corporately express our love for God.  There is a particular focus on musical worship, with the organization and training of music groups and associated technical support teams for different services and events.

Holy Spirit and Renewal

Jesus commissioned us to continue his miraculous work to restore the Kingdom of God here on earth.  We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry out this commission!  Without an active experience of the power of God working in us and through us, we are missing out on the fullness of His purpose for us.  The vision of the Holy Spirit & Renewal Portfolio is to create an environment where every member of St Agnes has the opportunity and desire to receive regular ministry and is equipped and empowered to minister to others.  There is a particular focus on organizing and training ministry teams for services and events.

Transformation - Siphiwe Gumede

We value the fact that we are not the same - Diversity is richness so we choose to light the way for others.
"You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house."
Matthew 5 : 14 - 15
