What We Believe

OUR PURPOSE

Our Purpose is to live a life that allows the Holy Spirit of God to transform us into being more like Jesus so that we can express God’s love to a damaged and hurting world.

We capture this in our Vision, which is to be:

A Significant

Kingdom

Church

Significant means that we aim to pioneer new experiences of being Church to act as a model to inspire and impact the wider Church.

Kingdom speaks of our heart for Mission guided by both Word & Spirit to re-establish the Rule of God as we prepare for the return of the King.

Church means to us a place where we are inclusively connected and help each other grow up into Christ.

OUR VALUES

Our values speak of who and what we are.

WORD BASED

We accept the validity of all scripture.

Scripturally based teachings and personal, individual reading of scripture are the basis for our walk with God.

SPIRIT LED

We open ourselves both as individuals and as a body to the healing, leading and empowerment of the Holy Spirit

ACTIVE IN FAITH

o    Inward ministry:  We believe in an environment that is accepting, inclusive and supportive; where people feel safe to come ‘just as they are’ to receive healing and grow in their relationship with God and in His service.

o    Outward Ministry:  We reach out to the community both spiritually (by evangelism) and physically (by caring and seeking justice for the broken, hurt, marginalised and poor.)

GOD FOCUSED

o    We are a worshipping community

o    We pray as individuals and as communities within the church

OUR STRATEGIC FOCUS

Following our parish visioning day on the 5th and 6th of March 2010, we believe that God has called us to focus on the following areas for the next few years.

1.            Family life

We will actively reach out to families both in our parish and community in order to bring the love of God back into all families in our area

2.            Outreach to the poor

We will reach out and come alongside the poor and marginalized, particularly those living in the Valley

3.            Growing and caring for our church community

We will actively draw new people into the family of St Agnes and welcome and accept newcomers to join in the many ministries and activities in the parish

4.            Evangelism especially to the Kloof area

We will actively spread the gospel in our local area and we will undertake and support missionary activities to unreached people further afield

5.            Young people

We will develop strong and relevant ministries to the young people in our community and in our parish

These five focus areas are underpinned by:

1.            Prayer

Our lives as individuals and each decision we make as a church will be underpinned at every stage by faithful prayer

2.            Ministry of the Holy Spirit

We believe that it is only by the power of the Spirit that we can live and act in a way that pleases God

3.            Worship

We worship God with all that we are, by giving our time, our finances, and our lives. When we do sing, our worship will be Spirit led and God-centred

OUR MINISTRIES

The intent of our structures is to create space for every member to be able to serve God somewhere in our life.   We support the leaders to provide oversight, vision, development, skills at recruiting and involving others, and succession.   The ministry is owned by the ministers so that decisions are taken at the point of need, in line with our vision and mission.   Ministry is monitored by the Council of Elders who are actively involved with their respective leaders in each ministry.  Regular written reports bring some discipline to the process of leadership.
